After months of research, countless surveys, and careful calculations, the seeding is in, and we’re ready to find out the best thing at Red Rock Bible Camp.
You’re probably asking yourself, “Self, what on earth is he talking about?” And in order to fully answer that I would need to take you back to the summer of 2012. It was a warm day; the sun was shining, the children were playing, and the office air conditioner was soothing my soul. I’m not sure if any of those things were actually happening at the time, but it sounds like a strong possibility.
If you’ve ever been to Red Rock Bible Camp, you’ll know that there’s a lot of great things to do. And once you leave at the end of the week, the inevitable question of “So, what was your favourite part about camp?” is next to impossible to answer. What we are starting here today will attempt to find the ultimate answer to that question.
But why a bracket? Good question. Here’s the answer: Applying a 32 team tournament bracket to something other than sports is often amazing, and always hilarious. But how does that even make sense? You’ve “seeded activities” and inanimate objects! Valid point. But believe it or not, there’s been a great deal of research put into the seeding, which has been in the works since August.
In August, the summer staff at RRBC were given a list of activities that they were to rate on a scale of 1-10. Summer staffers were allowed to give out only three “10’s” per survey to eliminate the inevitable “I love everything about camp” syndrome. After over 30 surveys were submitted, the votes were tallied and only the top 32 average scores moved on to the final tournament. Those average scores were then put in order to determine seeding for each activity to place them fairly in the bracket.
Here’s how the bracket will work (which you can check out at the top of the post, or on this PDF: RedRockBest):
Every day from Monday-Thursday, there will be a new head-to-head matchup between activities, and the activity with the most votes will move on to the next round. Voting will take place on our Facebook Page, so if you don’t “like” us yet, you should get on that so you can participate in this awesome tournament. Voting will close each day at whatever time is specified on the Facebook page, and we’ll have a recap every weekend about everything that happened during the week. There will be upsets, blow outs, and battles to the bitter end, and at the end of it all there will be one ultimate champion.
This should be a lot of fun, so make sure you keep up with the blog, and more importantly the Facebook page to participate in this once-of-a-lifetime opportunity. We start on Monday, so check out the bracket, make some predictions, and be ready to vote, or else your favorite thing might never receive the recognition it deserves. The stakes are high, the reward is low, but it’s going to be one heck of a tournament.
May the best thing win.
