Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” Have your heard Him lately, or are your prayers pretty much a monologue? If your prayers are a monologue (you doing all the talking), maybe it is because you are not giving Him a chance to speak to you. I know I have often been guilty of that.
Two way prayer takes time. That means it needs to be a high priority in our life or it isn’t going to happen. It takes time to quiet ourselves before God and focus on hearing His voice.
Some places are more conducive to communication with God, than are other places. If you have a choice in where you are going to commune with God, chose a place that helps you to connect with him. For me, that place is a natural setting like we have at Red Rock. In fact, one of the most significant times when I heard God clearly speaking to me was many years ago at camp. A staff member had admonished me about some things in my life that he thought needed to change. When I finally listened to him, found a quiet place to be with God and asked Him to search my heart, God spoke to me. He brought things to mind that I knew I needed to change.
One of my favorite prayers goes like this, “Search me oh God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23,24.
