A story is told of a man who once asked an old Chief how how things were going with his spiritual life. The Chief answered, “It is like a White Dog and a Black Dog fighting.” The man asked him which dog was winning. The Chief replied, “The one I feed the most.” For the old Chief, the White Dog represented good and the Black Dog represented evil.
Those are wise words that everyone who is a Christ follower should take seriously. Obeying the instruction in Colossians 3:1-4 will help you and me to apply the Chief’s wisdom in our lives. “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” We feed the “White Dog” in our life by focusing on Jesus’ life and teachings. We feed the Black Dog when we focus on evil things. Feed the White Dog and starve the Black Dog.
