This week has flown by, but at the same time, it seems to have gone slow enough for everyone to soak it up. As the last week of summer camp, the counselors, staff and CIT’s are still putting in as much energy as they did the first week, and it doesn’t seem like they are going to run out. Today is Cabin Day again, and for those who don’t know what that means, the CIT’s take the place of counselors in mostly everything, and they follow around their BBS buddies all day. Being the second time this has happened for the CIT’s, and the fact that it is nearing the end of their training, we as a staff see that the CIT’s are really a solid group of people and have no doubt that most of them will come back to be strong christian leaders on staff.
Denver has done a great job of speaking this week. But I think that the reason he has done his job well is because he has definitely spent time with his Lord, and it shows because his heart reflects Gods. In one chapel session Denver invited us to submit everything to God, and instead of leaving it there, he got us all to get on our knees and pray right then and there. This was really awesome to see, because the campers could practice with other strong Christians a simple task that they might not do back home. At the beginning of the week, Denver said he was excited for this week because the Kingdom is something that is close to his heart. God has definitely placed Denver here to speak to us all this week.
Denver has also connected with the campers outside of the chapel. He is pretty cool because he loves to spend his free time with the kids. The other day I found him fishing with one of the skills. He was showing them how to use minnows as bait, and when a camper found a frog he showed them how to use that too. Poor frog!
The other skills were having a great time earning points for the camp wide game “How to train your counselor”. Kayaking and Climbing skill used balloons to their advantage. The campers in kayaking played a Mario Kart sort of game and had to pop the balloons on the back of each others kayaks. Climbing filled the balloons with points and attached them to the wall in various places, and had the campers pick which balloons they were going for so everyone got to pop two.
Of course, rock hopping is a must and each skill seems to think that they have to go at least once in a week. But hey, the campers don’t complain!
