Last week was our very last week of Spring Staff, and I don’t think that any of us can quite believe that it’s all over so fast! We did a bunch of different fun things because it was the end:
1) Games Night at the Duplex
Everybody came over for some games – Hoopla on our side and card games or something on Eric and Krystal’s side. We were having a pretty memorable time, I thought. Really, watching Joel act anything out is quite entertaining. Our game ended around 10:30, and I was thinking things were heading in the direction of winding down, when Ben comes bursting in from the other side with that slightly wild look on his face that tips me off to the fact that he’s entered the zone of extreme hyperness. It’s the kind of mood that I can’t really keep up with. He was followed by the other half of the spring staff that hadn’t been playing Hoopla, and he announced that he was hungry for a burger. I was rapidly trying to switch my mood from “winding down” to “making hamburgers for everybody”, when he made another announcement: they had all decided to go to McDonald’s for a burger run, and anybody else could join them, provided there was no complaining the next day about being tired. So they left for Winnipeg, and I got ready for bed, very happy that there were other people for Ben to burn all that energy with! They all got back at 2:30 am, and apparently it was very bonding and uniting. I felt united with my pillow.
2) Girls at Brereton.
Lots of the girls were busy, but those of us remaining decided that we wanted to go out for supper together. I’m glad that we did – I love spending time with the girls at camp, and we had interesting conversation – the kind you only have when it’s girls only!
3) Hali and Jamie’s Wedding!
This wasn’t exactly a camp event, but there were so many spring staff there, it kind of seemed like it was! And Hali is about as “Red Rock” as you can get. It was a great wedding. Don’t know when I’ve laughed so hard. Good food, beautiful location, fun people, just an all-around good time. There are many other things I could comment on, but most of them are about those “you had to be there” type of things, so we’ll just leave it at that!
4) Spring Staff Wind-Up
We met at Birds Hill Park in the afternoon. It started out looking pretty miserable and cloudy, but the sun came out, and we were able to have a good time. People hung out, played football and volleyball, flew a kite, and tried to keep up with the kids on the play structure.
We went to Montana’s for supper, and celebrated Dave’s birthday with some antlers.
And now we have a few days to unwind a little before Staff Camp starts on Thursday…
